As the title suggests this is the ceiling of l'Opéra Garnier, built in 1862-1875 by the architect, Charles Garnier. The ceiling itself was painted by Marc Chagall in 1964. Aurélie, Janet and I went to the opera last Friday to celebrate Aurélie's birthday. We had a wonderful time.

Nothing else other than ISO 1600 can get this shot as grandeous as it is here!

what a wonderful shot ... I’m impress that I hardly notice any noise even at that high ISO or maybe I’m going blind or did you use noise ninja ...

This is the original image sans alteration. Digital noise only really becomes visible when you have large areas of one colour or shade. In an image with a lot of small and changing detail, it becomes hard to see the effects of noise.

As a further note, for a sense of scale ... just one of those lightbulbs circling around the outside is probably about the size of my head. The chandelier is massive, being at least 6 metres (18 feet) in height and it weighs over 6 tons.

Wow - that is large! If you took out the chandelier it look slike the mothership has cocme to take you, Aurélie, and Janet back to your home planet just in time for Aurélie's birthday! I'm surprised Aaron steady-hands didn't take it back to ISO 800 and try to shoot at 1/20" :)
