Maori ceiling patterns

Posted by Aaron Schmidt (Auckland, New Zealand) on 6 July 2005 in Lifestyle & Culture.

Aurelie and I were fortunate enough to be invited to a Maori presentation for the end of year exams at the University of Auckland. This picture is of the ceiling of the Maori meeting house on campus. The building is sacred (no shoes allowed) and the interior is covered in Maori carvings and patterned fabrics. It is primarily used by students of Maori studies.
