Aurelie loves these little guys. Right at the entrance to the Sydney Aquarium there was this great little sign that explained the best ways to take pictures of fish. The advice was to use the camera flash and either a) position the camera on a 45° angle to the glass or b) place the camera lens right up against the glass. This helps to avoid capturing the reflected light from the flash. Anyways, I was glad for the instructions as I think this shot turned out really well.
In other news, if you know of anyone looking for someone from the Katrina disaster, send them to the Katrina I'm OK! website.

Amazing this pics turned so well through the glass. They are such beautiful and delicate creatures. They look lik ecoming from another time. Also, I like the concept of males giving birth ;)
I take the opportunity to say Joyeux Anniversaire to my sister, Sophie !
Have a great day.

Thanks Aaron, for all the explanation. I will try to take a photo of my gold fish. If the result is ok, perhaps you'll see it.
This shot is really good.

Happy birthday Sophie!!! It is hard getting a shot through the glass - I like how the foreground in this one is so sharp and vivid - it really jumps out. Sea horses are facinating.
Other tips for aquarium photography... - use an external flash off camera and play with the angle of the flash to glass - if possible (with home aquarium) you can hold the flash above the water pointed down so it does not go against the glass at all - go high ISO and a big wide aperture which is pretty hard in a dark aquarium even with f/1.8 lens - strap on a scuba tank and jump in - bring a disposable underwater camera or buy the $8000 digital rebel underwater housing. This one is good for sharks and other dangerous creatures as a Kiwi adventure seeker you should be open to this sort of danger mongering!

The seahorse looks like a piece of jewelry.

Steve said exactly what I was thinking. Jewelry! Until I read your comment, I thought you had made the photo in a museum or jewelry shop. Amazing!
