There was a major storm in Auckland last Saturday night. Come Sunday morning, Jordi and his brother Merlo did what any good Kiwis would do: go in search of waves. I tagged along and together with Chris and Savanna, we cruised all the way down to the small village of Miranda, about an hour south-east of Auckland. We didn't find much in the way of waves but nevertheless, Jordi was determined and was the only one to go out and try his luck on a few, small left-handers.

Ha! Great pics Aaron! We should have brought you to Indonesia with us to take surfin' pics!! For those of you who don't know NZ, don't worry this is not the only kind of surf we get! Usually this spot is really sheltered and as calm as a lake, (in fact it could be like the waves in Lake Superior!) in behind some Islands of the Hauraki Gulf. I have just returned from surfing in Indonesia, so just had to get in and enjoy the contrast! After the surf we picked green-lipped mussels off the rocks for dinner and warmed up in a natural hot spring pool.

Love the movements captured in those pics!
oh and about the mussels, we actually thought there was a funny smell in our kitchen ... found the source under a pile of newspaper for recycling on the kitchen floor yesterday night: the so-called mussels from last week surfing day :)

That sounds good ! Mussels must have been very good and you seeem to have enjoyed surfing in spite of the rain. I must admit that I would have immediately turned on to the mussel eating activity in your place ;).
Good shots Aaron. Very few noise for a iso800 shot !

Nice ones - Jordi looks a bit like a super hero in his hooded wet (dry?) suit. Perhaps I can ship my radioactive spider to NZ and we can get Jordi some superpowers (or a nasty sore spot if the mutation doesn't take)

Excellent action shot. How hot is the water ?

The water was not very warm ... hence the 3 layers of protection Jordi is wearing on his body. But I'm sure Super Jordi would be able to withstand any temperature and he could surf the Artic waves!

Would make a great poster.
