Sitting and reading on Lion RockPosted by Aaron Schmidt (Auckland, New Zealand) on 7 October 2005 in Miscellaneous. Another picture from the beautiful Piha beach. Of course, that's Aurelie down below reading in the sun. This hill, known as Lion Rock, entends a few hundred metres up and out from the beach and becomes an island at high tide. For centuries, it was a fortified village of the local Te Kawerau a Maki tribe, until they were driven out in the 1820s by Ngapuhi warriors from the Northland, armed with European muskets. Just off to the left is where I took the picture of the waves crashing at Piha. This picture also reminds me of another picture I took back in France (I'm actually wearing the same pants).
