Aurelie and I were off at Tairua last weekend to complete our scuba diving certification. From left to right: myself (canadian), Aurelie (french), Susanne (german), Richard (our dive instructor), Orla (irish), Jolien (dutch), and Steve (second instructor). We had an excellent time and got to see some beautiful fish, including a spotted eagle ray and a moray eel.

Cool, congratulations on your scuba diving certification ! A spotted eagle ray is a nice encounter for first dives :-) Enjoy yourself ! Have you planned to dive a lot now ? There must be nice dive sites in New Zealand, not to mention Australia which is not too far away...

Même question que Guillaume : alors comme ça, la période "Jackson five" elle définitivement terminée ?...

When are you getting an underwater camera ?! Looks cold if you are wearing a turtle neck - is this before or after and was it cold??

Hi there,
With our Open Water qualification, we can dive up to 18meters. We went down 17meters last week-end and passed the 14 meters, you can really feel the water getting a LOT colder. In average the water was between 15-17C.
I guess we would like to pass our advanced qualification that would take us down to 30meters where things might get a little more exciting. But still, there are lots of beautiful diving places in NZ. We even have one of the top 10 diving site in the world: Poor Knights Island (about 2.5 hours north Auckland).
We had an amazing time and cannot wait to go diving again :)

Just for clarification, it was a PADI open water diving certificate. Guillaume, Sophie - The crazy fro style, c'est fini ... it's too hot in NZ to wear so much hair. Harlem - We went down to 17m and we're allowed to go down to a depth of 18m (60 feet). Jason - This was bright and early in the morning before our first dive. I'm actually wear a rash shirt that acts as a thin layer between your skin and the the 5mm wetsuit jacket.
