To kick off the firefighter world record climb, the great Edmund Hillary made a nice speech wishing the firefighters all his best. He's getting old now, but he's still a Kiwi legend, being the first mountaineer to successfully ascend Mount Everest. The firefighters gave him a beautiful helmet and fire jacket in honour of his achievement back in 1953.

Great shot of the ol' guy. Pretty amazing feat for Hillary and Norgay all those years ago. Even more amazing given he was a simple bee keeper before his trek to the top of the world. He is an great old guy, he an his wife still actively involved in improving conditions (including schools and the like) in Nepal.
