The jagged scar of Red Crater can be seen in both pictures, a massive wound in the side of this beautiful volcano. Red Crater is an active volcano just next to Mt. Tongariro and makes up part of the Tongariro Crossing, an 8 hour hike through Tongariro National Park in the North Island of New Zealand.

The pictures do not show how massive this crater is! I should have stand on the other side of the crater so you could realise :) In a few places on the sides of the crater, there are huge white rocks that were thrown by explosions ... very impressive.

Shuva - the EXIF settings are for the first picture but if memory recalls, they are very similar for the second picture as well. The Red Crater is huge ... walking around the rim would take 30+ minutes or so.
