Red Crater with Mount Ngauruhoe and Mount Ruapehu

Posted by Aaron Schmidt (Auckland, New Zealand) on 27 January 2006 in Landscape & Rural.

This is a good picture of Mt Tongariro (otherwise known as Red Crater). Unfortunately the clouds are covering Mt Ngauruhoe, directly in behind the Red Crater, which is a stunning black-surfaced active volcano (last eruption 1975). In the distance is the start of Mt Ruapehu, another beautiful snow-capped volcano (last eruption 1995). Although, they cannot be seen, the Emerald Lakes are right about in the center of this picture.
