This picture of Mount Ngauruhoe was taken 2 days after my photo of Red Crater with Mount Ngauruhoe but this time the clouds cleared to get a nice, clean shot. It's a beautiful volcano that dominates the landscape for many kilometers. It's become known as Mount Doom to the locals because it was used by Peter Jackson in the film The Lord of the Rings for the scenes with Frodo and Sam climbing Mount Doom to destroy the ring.

Marvelous!!! I like the natural layers in this nice landscape. Aaron-Did you go back to this place after 2 days to get this shot?

And Nadege's todays post looks very much like the path taken by Frodo to reach the mountain.

Madhu - Aurelie and I were travelling around the region, camping and hiking. We stayed near Mount Ngauruhoe and Red Crater for a few days.

Aaron, you are becomming the modern day Ansel Adams with the naming of your images and the texture of the shots.

Yeah, this Mt Doom is quite impressive. It looks quite bright in the picture but the Mount was actually very black ... and scary. The whole location is very dark and desolate with black volcanic rocks. I had never visited a place quite like that before.
