Dark and evil landscape of Mount Doom

Posted by Aaron Schmidt (Auckland, New Zealand) on 2 February 2006 in Landscape & Rural.

Continuing my picture of Mount Ngauruhoe from yesterday, this time showing a closeup of the fabled Mount Doom and its beautiful volcanic slope. It's hard to get an idea of scale but this volcano is massive, rising 1,978 metres (6,489 feet) into the sky. Mount Ngauruhoe is active and erupted in 1975.
