We found a leopard seal on the beach of Mount Maunganui. It had been badly injured, multiple cuts and wounds around its body, presumably from some predatory animal out at sea. Although aware of the situation, the DOC (Department of Conservation) did nothing to allieviate the poor seal's suffering. Then again, there probably wasn't much they could do ... unless they wanted to go Canadian style to end the misery.

Sad although I didn't realize what mean predators the leopard seals are. If you see the movie 8 Below there is a crazy scene with a leopard seal and some dogs.

A little coolness during this summer cool idea Aaron. I hope everything is OK for the leopard seal.
That's sad, but realistic I suppose. I like how you've captured the signpost in front of the actual seal.

Poor little seal ... it was a very sad scene to witness but as you say Leslie, realistic. It was there both days we went having a walk on the beach. It was avoiding going back at sea so it must be dead by now (hopefully).
