Muriwai beach is home to a large breeding ground for gannets. With a 1.8m wingspan these beautiful birds love to soar and they come to Muriwai because of the excellent wind conditions over the cliffs.

Aaron, I've gotten into photographing birds since we've been going to the beach. Not as big and colorful as this Gannett. You must have been relatively close on a nearby cliff.

Steve - We were pretty close ... it was quite challenging to catch them in mid flight as they never hovered in one spot (as this photo leads you to believe).
