Aurelie and I went skiing a few weekends back at Mount Ruapehu. We stayed at Piper's Ski Lodge courtesy of my boss, Wayne (whose father and brother own the lodge). Note: the chateau featured in this photo is not the lodge we stayed at (although I'm sure Wayne wouldn't mind).
If you look closely you can see a chairlift roughly in the middle of the right hand side of this active volcano. And Mount Ruapehu is indeed active, erupting as recently as 1996. It was a beautiful place to ski with stunning views of Mount Doom.

Wow, does it just feel surreal sometimes? When do we get to see some hobbits? When I look at your pictures like this I am just amazed at the stunning scenery. Unbelieveable! Great sunlight btw in this photo...was this early morning?

I can image myself wearing lots of heavy clothes, watching people ski, while I sip cold beer(coz I dont know how to ski).

What a beautiful picture. You haven't been skiing in awhile. This picture reminds me of Whistler where it was 17C in the village and very cold up the mountain.

I think it was actually at sunset ... we drove back to take a few pictures before heading back to Auckland. The scenary of the all Tongariro National Park was just breathtaking.

this is indeed beautiful - love those snowy mountains. It is neat to see green grass contrasted with cold snowy mountains.
