I don't have a macro lens so I resorted to my 18-55mm kit lens and this damn bee kept moving (I guess that's what they do when they're still alive) and I had to take 50 shots just to get 1 in focus ... but in the end, I like the result. I became very close with this bee and missed him when I let him go safe outside.
In other news, my friends Dave & Rina have launched a new Auckland website development company called Singular. Wishing them all the best!

Your effort did payoff well aaron, loved this one. Nice and very sharp details of the bee. 10/10

Wow - good effort!! The detail in your carpet looks good too.

You captured great details of this little creature. Look at how his hair got stiff all through the body...may be it is horrified with your pose with the cameera......I am just imagining your position with camera while taking this snap...ha...ha...ha.....:)

Wow great shot. Ever since I got my 50mm f/1.8 I have never put back my kit lens. I don't know why it always gets bashed on in discussion forums but this shot does give it justice. Did you use a flash or is the room really bright? I'm thinking whether I should get a flash but I'm just a beginner.

@Ryan Yam: It's bright because I overexposed the shot, knowing that the bee would be darker than the carpet. Personally, I think the Canon kit lens does what it needs to do but a better quality lens definitely makes a difference (I also have 70-200mm F4.0 lens that I love).
Great focus! I think we can call this the 1:50 rule. Thank goodness we don't need to pay for film any longer!

yeah yeah yeah yeah! It will come back and sting you one day!

Patience paid off. Your shot is 100% on focus. My macro lens would struggle to be in focus for the whole bee.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I miss my bee friend...

Amazing shot! I have tried doing close up shots of bees before, but as soon as I get it in focus it moves. I can't believe how close up and clear you were able to get it.
