Rainbow Lorikeet Feeding in Tree

The parrots are back! After a long winter without them, spring has arrived and our parrot couple is back to feed in the trees of our backyard. Only one of the pair is featured here but they always fly together. I wonder where they go in the winter.

You are lucky to have some parrots around your house. I guess they can be noisy neighbours, but they are so ... exotic.
Do you think migrating parrots could wear coconuts or half coconuts during their fly ? It just reminded me an unsolved question about African swallows... Maybe there were migrating parrots in England during the middle age, that would explain the presence of coconuts in some famous historical reconstitution...

@Herve: Would the parrots have to be wearing the coconuts? Why can't they just carry them in their beaks? I've never seen our parrots wear (or carry) coconuts but they look like strong birds and I'm sure they'd be able to if their lives depended on it.

Lovely capture of this difficult to approach parrot Aaron. We have them in our garden too but I didn't know they were in NZ - were they introduced there?

@Bron: Good question. According to Wikipedia, this species of parrot was introduced to new zealand. They're a welcome addition in my books, being such beautiful birds.
