In 1825, the Ngapuhi tribe came sweeping through this area from the north. The warriors from the local Te Kawerau a Maki tribe fought bravely, but they were no match for the muskets the Ngapuhi had obtained from the British. 2000 lost their lives.
Some say spirits continue to haunt these beautiful beaches of Karekare but seeing Jordi walk in harmony with the wind and waves and sand ... all I felt was peace.
This is my 1000th post on Aminus3. Jason achieved this goal a few months back and Shuva's soon to follow. I've been posting fairly consistently since June 1st, 2004, one month shy of 4 years.
Wonderful shot! I love it. It shows the power and the peace at the same time. I have immense respect for our west coast beaches, even more so after reading your story on Jordi. Congratulations on your 1000th post.

congrats on your 1000th post!! Those 4 years since we first started posting seem like a long time ago...
This is a haunting, prolific image - I like mood, serenity and back story. When you feel at peace in a place like this, you can connect with that feeling at other more chaotic times.

This is an absolutely beautiful photo Aaron. The figure is perfectly placed and I love the light on the breaking waves and those lines of light and dark in the sand!

Aaron thanks for your comments on Yellow Leaf. This beach scene is stunning, the stormy sky and sea has a real impact on the photo. Great capture.

You can really feel the power of the coast in that image. I like the sun on a wave in the distance - a brief period of calm between the storms.
